About The Royal Society for Swedish Culture Abroad
The Royal Society for Swedish Culture Abroad is headquartered in Gothenburg and is a society of members all over the world. They are united in their interest in Sweden, the Swedish language and Swedish culture. The society – dating back more than 100 years – is a non-profit organisation whose original aim is to help Swedes and decendents of Swedes abroad maintain their ties with Sweden.

From its work in the early 20th century in supporting the many poor Swedes who migrated from Sweden, its major focus today is to promote interest in the Swedish language around the world. In various countries every year the society arranges lectures, seminars and courses on Sweden, Swedish culture and the Swedish language.

Another important part of our work is to support all the youths – and adults – who are studying Swedish abroad and who wish to come to Sweden for a brief period to improve their language proficiency and gain understanding of Swedish culture. Thus, every summer we arrange courses in Swedish somewhere in Sweden at various levels of proficiency which attract students from all over the world.
Besides the main tasks above, the society also is committed to caring for the Swedish memorial landmarks (in the widest sense) that are to be found all over the world. We also conduct research on migration from Sweden around the end of the 19th century / beginning of the 20th century.
The society's magazine - Sverigekontakt – is issued four times a year. Via this magazine you can keep up to date with the society's and its members' activities.
The goodwill for Sweden that our activities have created is considerable. The interest in our language and our culture helps build relationships over time. Those with whom we have cooperated can function for a long period of time as excellent ambassadors för Sweden and promote the interests of our country in many ways.

Please feel free to contact us
If you are planning to carry out an event abroad that concerns teachers of Swedish in the country in question, or if you are in need of help in finding a lecturer or have other needs we can assist you with, please contact us. We will with gratitude and joy try to contribute in some way to a rewarding event.

We would also be pleased if our magazine were to be visible at embassies, consulates, chambers of commerce etc. If the magazine is not available at your place of work, please contact us. We will make sure that it arrives there.

Best regards
